I belong to this generation of  adults that grew up believing that we would have a decent job/career if we did a university degree. Our parents, family and friends pushed us to go to this institution that in theory would make us fitter to find a well-paid job. As a consequence, we would be educated, employed and therefore happy. The deal was simple, study, memorize plenty of stuff, pass the exam, and get the certificate. After a few years it wasn’t enough to get a certificate; we needed to get the right certificate. So the deal changed, it became study, memorize stuff even harder, get a good grade and get the certificate that matters.  Where I come from, the ideal would be to get some sort of engineering degree,  or become a doctor or eventually a lawyer. Because so many people wanted to have this job fitness certificate, there was a boom of  private universities.  After a few years there were too many lawyers, and the options started to narrow down. We started to loose manual skills and the ability to do things.  We became a society of services. I don’t think we became happier, in fact we might have developed a society of educated adults that feel hollow and lost. Maybe we need things to change…
